I’ve been hearing more and more these days about a crazy-sounding new game show called the Million Second Quiz. How crazy, you ask? Well, it’s sort of a Big Brother meets Jeopardy meets the Truman Show. But weirder.
Contestants will sit in a giant hourglass (!) somewhere in Manhattan, playing a live, ongoing 24/7 trivia game, until they are beat out by another contestant. Until they are eliminated, they live inside the hourglass, visible to any passersby.
The game will run 24 hours a day for 12 days straight. You can watch it online anytime, but NBC will air it live on TV for 1 hour each night, starting September 9.
Here’s the best part: you don’t have to just watch the players, you can actually play along at home using the web site and/or an app (not sure which app yet). If you do well, you just might earn “Line Jumper” status and be invited to play in the hourglass. The final prize is a whopping $10 million.
I’m not sure I’ve got what it takes to win a 24-hour-a-day trivia game, but since I live in NYC I’ll probably swing by the hourglass site and participate as a gawker/live viewer. For more hardy trivia buffs, this could be your big chance to jump the line and become America’s newest reality star. Bring it, people!
